How to build muscle fast
Last Updated: July 30, 2008
Working with a professional trainer is proven to increase muscle, increase strength - and make you look better.

But up until recently it was also pretty expensive - a highly-qualified personal trainer can cost as much as $200 per hour. Even lesser-qualified trainers charge as much as $75 per hour.

Luckily, the internet has given us a wealth of training programs, which show how you how to train yourself - using low cost equipment, with little or no scientific knowledge required.

We decided to review these training programs - our key criteria were ease-of-use, strength gains, and muscle growth.

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with the results - these programs do work, and if you pick the right one, you could begin to see results in a matter of days.

We reviewed 11 muscle building programs - only 3 met our criteria:

  • Fast Increase in Strength - at least 10% in the big lifts
  • Fast and Easy Start-up - in only a few hours, even for novices
  • Quick Muscle Gains - minimum of 1 pound per week

"The best Muscle Building Program in 2008..."

By far the easiest-to-follow guide we came across - our own experience says it only takes 15 minutes to get started, or a couple of hours if you've never lifted weights before (because you have to watch the DVDs). It is the only guide to come with DVDs and an actual book (not an e-book), which makes it easier to use.

This is also the only guide that assumes absolutely no knowledge of exercise. Impressively, our e-mails were usually responded to in under an hour, and by the author of the program no less, and there is an unconditional 60 day money-back guarantee.

Best of all, the strength and muscle gains were unparalleled - the average muscle gain was 11 pounds in 6 weeks, with an average 25 pound increase on the bench press.

The program worked well for all body types and ages we tested. Aimed primarily at beginner and intermediate lifters, and our top pick for 2008.

The Verdict: Fast and easy to get started; works for complete exercise novices; costs less than the latest supplement; proven muscle gains of around 2 pounds per week - our top pick

2. Muscle Gaining Secrets

Our second pick is also written by a recognized expert in the field - and again, we were impressed by the ease of use, fast support, and money-back guarantee.

The upgraded version of the program also includes an audio version of the book, which adds to the ease of use.

All in all, it's a great package which means you can enjoy muscle gains for very little ($77), very quickly. So why the lower rating?

Well, perhaps we were spoiled by our top pick, but the muscle and strength gains were good, not great. And while the customer support was fast, they weren't able to answer our technical questions. Since customer support and fast results are so important, we had to take off some points there.

3. No-Nonsense Muscle Building

No-Nonsense Muscle Building is our third and final pick, and it includes some great meal plans to keep you eating right.

Again, the program was presented in a clear and easy-to-follow format.

The difference between this and the other two sites was simple, however - the gains just weren't that good. Fast muscle and strength gains are the most important part of a muscle building program, and unfortunately it just wasn't there with this system when compared to the other two.
